Livestock in Afghanistan was at high risk of drought in 2018 (1397 Solar Year) but the Ministry of Agriculture’s predictability and its special attention to effected livestock holders prevented the major catastrophe in the livestock sector.
Afghanistan’s livestock sector worth over seven billion USD, which the Ministry of Agriculture has successfully saved it from the drought.
Currently, animal welfare services including vaccine services, artificial insemination, fight against animal diseases, and other veterinary-related services are available in all districts of the country. There also has been a focus on providing animal health services to Kuchis (Nomads).
The Ministry of Agriculture is seriously working to grow and strengthen livestock in the country. As Afghanistan succeeded in producing over 80 percent of its poultry meat products last year, reaching on the verge of self-sufficiency. This growth will also be linked to other livestock sectors.
