Launching a workshop to draft National environmental policy

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock(MAIL), in coordination with  National Environmental Protection Agency, has launched a  consultative workshop to draft a national environmental policy, revitalize national biodiversity strategy and assess illegal wildlife trade.
Hashmatullah Ghafouri, deputy MAIL for Natural Resources of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock at the outset of four-day workshop said, “The ministry has able to take effective steps to boost the environment, rehabilitate 18,000 hectares of pistachio and almond forests and 2,500 hectares of land in green belt of Kabul, adding that production of 28.8 million saplings, creation of 430,000 hectares of natural forests in 22 provinces, rehabilitation of 3,178 hectares of grasslands in 12 provinces, rehabilitation and protection of 2,670 hectares of medicinal plants such as regiments and some other plants is one of these activities in the country.”
Deputy MAIL said that the Ministry of Agriculture considered the fight against climate change, reduction of greenhouse gases, improvement of environment, protection of biodiversity and considers it its responsibilities.
Mr. Ghafouri also referring to National Environmental Policy Plan said, “The document could play a valuable role in combating climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and diversifying life.
Ajmal Mortazavi, director of legislation and policy at the National Environmental Protection Agency, also said that the workshop would focus on National Environmental Policy Plan, National Biodiversity Strategy, Illegal Wildlife Trade Assessment Action Plan and National Participation Document.
More than 200 local officials from 34 provinces participated in  consultation workshop of National Environmental Policy Plan.
