Construction of 100 acres of Dense-orchards via “HVCDSP” project in Nangarhar

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock(MAIL) through Horticultural Value Development Sector Project(HVCDSP), has built 45 sturgeon gardens, including lemon and clementine, on more than 100 acres of land in Behsood, Betikut, Kuzkunar and Kamah districts of Nangarhar province over the past two years. These gardens have been built for 59 farmers in the province. These gardens will bear fruit for the next three years.
These gardens are professionally constructed and are very different from the gardens which are traditionally built. Dense-orchards produce after two years, but orchards which are traditionally built by the peasants take about five years to bear fruit. Dense-orchards are 20 times more productive than traditional orchards.
560 women and 460 men directly, as well as 1575 men and 1763 other women indirectly benefit from the mentioned orchards constructed by (HVCDSP) in Nangarhar.
Dense gardens, on the one hand, increase yields and, on the other hand, help reduce the temperature of the area.
The horticultural value chain sector development project is active in construction of new infrastructure, improving the value chain of horticultural products, upgrading the agricultural capacity of the peasant, and developing the export of horticultural products in 11 provinces of Afghanistan. The project is funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
Over the past two years, various dense orchards including Strauss, Dates, Pear and Apple have been professionally constructed in Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Khost, Logar, Ghazni, Kabul, Paktia, Paktika, Bamyan and Maidan Wardak provinces.
