MAIL Launches Advanced Training on Water Accounting Plus

Seventh Advanced Training on Water Accounting Plus was held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock (MAIL) for the staffs of ministries of agriculture, water and energy, and rural rehabilitation and development today.

The five-day training program has been launched to build capacity and improve water management skills for 26 staffs of the above-mentioned ministries.

Nasir Ahmad Durrani, minister of agriculture, in the opening ceremony of the program said, “Our geographical location as our work is sourced from the snow, this topic has lots of meaning and importance for my country.”  Minister Durrani also requested from the World Food Organization (FAO) and Netherland Ambassador for continuation of technical assistance and further training programs.

Meanwhile Netherland Ambassador to Afghanistan Ernst Noorman said, “Although Netherland has only the technical and educational part of the program, we will still work with our experiences in water management for Afghanistan." The Dutch ambassador announced his country's comprehensive cooperation with Afghanistan.

FAO Country Representative for Afghanistan Rajendra Kumar Aryal also talked about climate change and downing of water in Afghanistan and the world and said, “Netherlands has sufficient experience in water management and its experience is essential for proper use of water management in Afghanistan." He and called on the Dutch ambassador for more technical and financial cooperation for water management in Afghanistan.

Susman Sijapati, a global expert on water management, described Afghanistan as a country that has 200 mm precipitation annually, adding that this amount of water is very limited to use. He said, “You have to have extensive study to control you water.”

The training consists of eight rounds. Six rounds were held in Dubai, Delhi and Hong Kong, with two more to be held at the Afghan Ministry of Agriculture.
